Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes becomingly real after you have gone. Its houses climb a hill so steep it would be a cliff except there are stairs cut into it…

So wrote John Steinbeck in the May 1953, (from Harper’s Bazaar). And his favorite hotel when staying in Positano… Le Sirenuse.

When you step off the busy streets of Positano into Le Sirenuse, its like entering a peaceful sanctuary. Calm, quiet, and soothing… It is the atmosphere of a family home. You feel comfortable and welcome immediately.

Mr. Ciccone took me on an extensive tour of the hotel. The Le Sirenuse is the premier five star luxury hotel in Positano, with fifty-eight rooms, suites, and junior suites. And I was able to see many of the unique rooms.

Almost all the rooms have a terrace or balcony overlooking the Bay of Positano. The rooms are contemporary with all the features you would expect in a modern luxury hotel. Yet the hotel contains beautiful antique furniture, handmade Vietri floor tiles, and soaring vaulted ceilings. The bathrooms are sophisticatedly simple, using marble Jacuzzi bathrooms with separate showers and baths and ignature Eau d’Italia body care products.

Le Sirenuse is open seasonally, generally from late March or Early April, until late October each year. When I was visiting the hotel, it was sold out for the next thee weeks, so this is a hotel to book well in advance. Le Sirenuse has an incredible pool, an Aveda beauty center and spa, and a romantic Champagne Bar. You can dine at the La Sponda restaurant, with gorgeous sea-views. And, enjoy a complimentary ride in the hotel’s wooden boat and experience the breathtaking Amalfi coastline from the water.

If you plan to go to Positano and want to stay at an oasis in the center of town, then choose Le Sirenuse!
