Ruby Princess – Dubrovnik….
On Day 4 of our Princess cruise, we docked in the Croatian town of Dubrovnik. We jumped on a bus provided by the cruise line and headed from the port to the Old City of Dubrovnik.
Often called the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, the Old City of Dubrovnik is a beautiful walled-town filled with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. In the 1990’s, much of Dubrovnik was damaged by the armed conflict… and even now the city is the focus of a major restoration programs coordinated by UNESCO.
We were amazed by the beauty of the marble streets, the baroque buildings, the shimmering waters of the Adriatic, and the simple marina. We did, despite the heat, climb the walls of the city, spending hours exploring and enjoying the views. These walls have protected the city for more than five centuries.
Back on board, we enjoyed a cold beer on our balcony, enjoying views of the Croatian coast. We vowed that this is a town and a country we would come back and explore in depth. And that’s why you often take a cruise – to get a glimpse of your NEXT trip!
