The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

For my wife’s birthday, I decided to surprise her with a visit to the The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island Resort. This property is located on miles of pristine beaches, about thirty minutes north of Jacksonville, Florida. For us – driving from Atlanta – it was an easy ride for a weekend getaway. Amelia Island is one of the most popular beach destinations on the East Coast.

Because I wanted to combine our birthday celebration with an onsite-inspection, I contacted Patrick Millard, the Travel Industry Sales Manager for the resort. Patrick Millard Patrick and I met for a few hours and he generously took the time to provide me tremendous insight into the history, details, and amenities of this Ritz-Carlton property. His knowledge and enthusiasm was invaluable in gaining an “insider’s view” of the resort. Patrick exemplified the high levels of professionalism and service I found at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island Resort.

At The Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island you’ll find 446 well-appointed guestrooms, including 43 Club rooms, 42 suites and three Presidential-style suites! There are four restaurants, a lobby lounge, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, a 24-hour Fitness center, onsite tennis facilities, and 18 holes of private championship golf right out the front door of the hotel. And swimming pools – beautiful, beautiful swimming pools… and of course, an incredible beach!
There are multiple room options at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. All rooms have an ocean view. Coastal View Rooms start at 406 sq. feet. We were in an upgraded, Deluxe Coastal View Room with a King Bed. The bed was “perfect” as you would expect at a Ritz-Carton hotel. The room was luxurious, spacious, and with the recent decor improvements… light and airy! Those recently completed renovations focus on a coastal design inspired by the beaches and tides of the dune-lined barrier island. Dark mahogany floors, carpets with a wind-swept sand look lead to dramatic ceiling-to-floor balcony doors overlooking the majestic Atlantic Ocean.

There are also suites available and all are larger than 1,000 sq. feet. That’s more than DOUBLE the size of the room we stayed in. And finally, there is the impressive Ritz-Carlton Suite. It is located on the eighth floor of the hotel and is a stunning 2500+ sq. feet with a direct ocean view.

We were fortunate to have Ritz-Carlton Club® Level privileges… and the Club privileges made our stay very, very special. The Ritz-Carlton Club® Level is described on their website as “combining intimacy, comfort and exclusivity with the personalized service and attention to detail that are the hallmarks of The Ritz-Carlton. This oasis is often referred to as a hotel within a hotel, where a dedicated concierge attends to individual needs in a well-appointed, relaxed lounge environment. With continuous culinary offerings throughout the day (breakfast, light snacks, hors d’ oeuvres, beverages and sweets) and access to a computer station…”

I can attest to all of the above! We would have espresso each morning, and because they changed out the culinary offerings five times each day, we never tired of nibbling. And those late-nights desserts forced me to use the 24 hour Fitness center far too often.

We had a wonderful time – enjoying the weather, the friendly staff, the food, our ocean-view room, The Ritz-Carlton Club® Level amenity, the pools, and the beach. This resort is a great location to plan a special event, schedule a conference, or simply slow down and take a break. As you would expect, the service was stellar and the staff professional and knowledgeable.
