Mediterranean Cruising with Princess – Day 12

Ruby Princess – Naples

After 10+ days of traveling the Mediterranean, we returned to the shores of Italy. The Ruby Princess arrived in Naples in the early morning.

I was up early and took these photos of the sun rising behind Mt. Vesuvius. In the early morning, the busy port of Naples was stirring as we docked. Today we were taking a personalized shore excursion.

We were meeting Gianluca Savarese, owner of Private Day Tours. Gianluca and I have worked together for years and I was looking forward to him giving us his unique view of the Amalfi area. Our first stop after leaving Naples was Sorrento.

In Sorrento, we wandered the streets, enjoyed a central cafe’, and – as this was a business-trip – we also visited The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. Sorrento is a great jumping-off point for the Amalfi, Capri, and Pompeii. Our next stop… Positano!

Ah, Positano. This small town seems to be hang off the cliffs surrounding the town. It’s certainly one of the most visited towns on the Amalfi coast. During our travels to Positano, we visited two luxury Virtuoso hotels, Il San Pietro Di Positano and Le Sirenuse. I was able to tour both properties extensively.

For lunch, Gianluca took us to one of his favorite restaurants just above Positano, Ristorante La Tagliata.

Ristorante La Tagliata was fantastic. Great food, wonderful views, and Gianluca took us into the kitchen to meet ‘Mama.’ We had an enjoyable day traveling with Gianluca and reveled in his stories of the Amalfi. But now it was time to head back to the Ruby Princess. Next stop… Roma!
